Alumni module
Mentor profiles, career board, privacy-aware directory, and alumni-only forums — for the post-undergraduate journey.
Alumni is the post-undergraduate side of the platform. It gives graduates a way to stay listed in their org's directory, opt into mentoring, share job and internship openings, and participate in alumni-only conversations — all with per-field privacy controls so each alumnus decides what stays public and what stays private.
Who this module is for
- Alumni (members whose status is
alumni,active_alumni, orlifetime_alumni) — directory, mentor profile, career posts, privacy settings - Active members and undergrads — browsing mentors and the career board
- Officers — promoting alumni participation, surfacing mentors for recruitment and career fairs
- Org admins — running graduation rollovers, configuring alumni-only forums, supporting privacy questions
What gets enabled
When Alumni is turned on for an org:
- An Alumni directory surface appears, filtered to members in one of the three alumni statuses
- Alumni can publish a mentor profile with a short bio, industries, career fields, an availability flag (open / limited / closed), and a max-mentees count
- A career board opens up — alumni and officers can post jobs, internships, referrals, and networking opportunities; every active member can browse
- Per-field privacy is enforced through alumni privacy settings: each alumnus chooses, for email, phone, work history, and location, one of four visibility levels — everyone, alumni only, officers only, or hidden
- A daily background job sweeps the career board and deactivates any posting whose expiry timestamp has passed
- If Community is also enabled, you can mark individual forums as alumni-only so undergrads cannot see or post in them
Common workflows
For alumni
- Alumni getting started — first-login walkthrough: status confirmation, privacy review, mentor opt-in, career board
- Mentorship & alumni — opting into the mentor program, browsing mentors, reaching out
For org admins
- Alumni directory administration — running graduation rollovers, helping alumni adjust privacy, curating the directory
- Mentorship matching administration — seeding the mentor pool, surfacing mentors for recruitment and career fairs
After enabling
- Alumni — post-enable runbook — the first 30 minutes after toggling Alumni on, including required setup and common gotchas
What's not in this module today
- "Remove me from the directory entirely" toggle. Alumni can hide individual fields, but there is no single "opt out of the directory" switch. Org admins can hide the record manually.
- Location-level privacy toggle. The visibility selector for location exists in the model but does not yet drive UI behavior — location either renders if the alumnus filled it in, or it doesn't.
- Manual admin pair / un-pair for mentees. Alumni opt into the mentor pool and members reach out off-platform. There is no in-product pairing inbox, accept/decline workflow, or admin override.
- Own-chapter-only visibility. The four visibility levels are everyone, alumni only, officers only, and hidden. There is no chapter-scoped level.
- Server-side enforcement of mentor availability. "Closed" availability tells the UI to stop surfacing a mentor; it does not block direct contact through other channels.
